🇺🇸 USWNT’s defensive roles for picking up

Emma Hayes’ era of experiments will take place on Saturday when the American national team of women will play the first of two friendly matches against Brazil that still offer a chance for a young group of players to make their business.

Both friendly matches offer valuable minutes to the 17 players in the camp with 30 caps or less at international level, especially for defense. The USWNT will be at the Olympic Games, Naomi Girma and Tierna Davidson without their starting center, of whom the last week suffered a torn ACL. The Focus is now shifting to a group of fewer experienced players who could take the place of Girm and Davidson, at least in the meantime Alana Cook, Tara Mckeown and Emily Sams. In theory minutes there are for each of them, especially since Hayes has made the concession that she will have to sacrifice chemistry temporarily so that she can explore the player pool well.

The absences in the defensive group have demonstrably added a new layer to the consistent competitive environment of the USWNT, especially since each player has an argument to play. This includes Sams, the reigning NWSL defender of the year and Olympic Games that are alternative, who said she is still navigating through the balance to be a newcomer and to grasp the opportunities for her.

  • Sams: “My role has frankly remained the same. I am not established as a starter [I’m] Still just try to fight to keep my place in this team, but fight for a starting spot. … Absolutely every camp and every cap that I get, I get more confidence only because it is an intense environment. It is a competitive environment, so every minutes I can get and just doing well makes me a better feeling and certainly improves my self -confidence. “

Novelty will be a theme over the field for the next two races of the USWNT, although one pillar has been back to the group for the first time since they won Olympic gold in Paris – Trinity Rodman. One of the members of the ‘Triple Espresso’, Rodman is back after he has taken the time to recover from a chronic back injury and joins an attacking group full of talented young goal scorers such as Alyssa Thompson, Ally Sentnor and Michelle Cooper.

The Manchester Derby returns on Sunday at a strange moment for both Manchester United and Manchester City, which bragging to play for but possibly the firepower is missing to claim the lead on their rival.

From a results perspective alone, the points are more valuable for the city than united. The Red Devils are in 13th place and cannot realistically focus on a finish in European places after a spectacular, unpressive season, with all their hope now attached to the UEFA Europa League prior to this month against Lyon. City is, however, locked up in a Uber-competitive battle for a berth for Champions League that includes Chelsea and Newcastle United. Pep Guardiola’s side goes in fifth place the weekend, a point behind Chelsea and a point for Newcastle with eight games to go, which grants extra importance to Sunday’s game in Old Trafford.

City will, however, have to deal with Erling Haaland, who will probably miss the rest of the season with an ankle problem. There is a big question about the attacking production of City without Haaland, which this season scored nearly 40% of the team’s objectives. The load could fall for Omar Marmoush, who has five goals in eight league matches and has sufficient quality to help City Exact Revenge for the Loss of December against United, despite a bad show from both parties. In the coming weeks, a major test for Marmoush will be given the shoes that he has to fill and the task that is under control for the city during a season of UPS and Downs.

As far as United is concerned, there is still a question mark about their prospects in this game. On Tuesday they come from a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, in which they fell victim to the opponent’s strong defense, in which they put only six of their 23 shots on goal and then give up the only purpose of the game by a defensive decline. They were demonstrably lucky to win a victory against City in December and few manager Ruben Amorim would blame the best version of his team for the Europa League. However, it still marks a crucial week for Amorim and the company, with the pressure assembly to show some signs of life during a gloomy season.

💰 The back line

💵 Dear bets

  • Series A: Parma vs. Inter, Saturday, noon
💰 The choice: Inter to win 2-0 (+650) – For Inter, the journey from Saturday to Parma is sandwiched between the Coppa Italia and last week against AC Milan and the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarterfinals first stage against Bayern Munich, so his team manager could rotate for the weekend match. The Serie A -Leiders have enough to get past the 16th place team of the competition, so expect a fairly simple victory to keep Inter on top of the competition for another week.
