USMNT to be without star Antonee Robinson for Concacaf Nations League: How do USA cope vs. Panama?
Mauricio Pochettin’s 23-man national team of the United States of the United States has a number of important developments prior to Panama on Thursday at 7 p.m. Paramount+ In the Concacaf Nations League semi -finals. The coach confirmed that Antonee Robinson, Johnny Cardoso and Auston Trusty are the players who are not available due to injuries. They are replaced in the team by Jack McMlynn, Brian Gutierrez and Max Arfsten.
“For various reasons, medical reasons, they are not here and that is difficult to explain because I am not a doctor,” Pochettino said.
With these additions, Pochettino will bring in more players who were involved in the January camp where the USMNT Venezuela and Costa Rica defeated. There are currently nine players on the Roster who were in that camp where Pochettino was shown what the domestic talent of the USMNT could do, and now they get the chance to prove whether they are ready for the next steps in their international career.
Given the proximity and growing fame of Pochettino with the MLS Continent of the USMNT, it makes sense that so many of these players would be added in the short term inland, but it also shows the importance of January camp to build depth around the team.
Although there are more players to choose from in Europe than ever, with those players approaching the end of a debilitating season, it is only logical that injuries can sometimes pop up like that. There is also the timing factor with only three days of training before the semi -final starts.
So, how do they deal with it without Robinson, easily the most impressive American abroad this season is not the name Christian Pulisic?
Coping without Robinson
Robinson has 50 caps and has become one of the first names on the USMNT team magazine, together with becoming one of the top left in the Premier League with Fulham. His 10 assists have been important to push the cottagers on the field and his athletics has also enabled Pochettino to step into midfield to push the attack forward.
Without Sergino Dest already, how the USMNT will continue that in Nations League Play now becomes an important story. Arfsten is a promising player for the Columbus crew and is able to push higher on the field as a winger, but balancing attacking and defensive responsibilities is the key.
The USMNT has only won one of the last five non-january camp matches that they played without Robinson, a 4-0 triumph over Ghana and not only lacks the attack without the Fulham man, but the defense also suffers a considerable problem for Pochettino.
However, this is where depth comes in, because there is currently no replacement for Robinson on the Roster. Towards the end of Nations League Play, that will be a bigger problem or the USMNT will find a way to cope with him if Pochettino improves the depth of the team. These are the kind of things he has to overcome on his way to the World Cup 2026, so it’s good to start those challenges in a competitive competition as quickly as possible.
