These are the most common Elite Eight matchups by seed in women’s tournament history
In 1994, the NCAA Division and the Women’s Basketball Tournament led a 64-team holder. This brought more possible combinations for Eight matches.
Each area of the holder has 16 teams. Each team has eight possible elite opponents, because half of the region is located seeds No. 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16, while the other half has 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, which leaves 128 possible combinations in the region.

The two most common matches were seed No. 1 against No. 2 and 1 against No. 3, a total of 86 times. This means that 69.4 percent of the elite eight matches since 1994 were seed no. 1 towards No. 2 or No. 3.
The third most common match is No. 3 against No. 4 .. This makes sense, because these are the second highest seeds in each of its relevant part of the region. In 2021, Arizona No. 3 defeated No. 4 Indiana and eventually continued its discovery in the national title. There Wildcats would fall on No. 1 Stanford, 54-53.
There are only three cases of double-digit seeds that have entered the regional finals, each time to face seed no. 1. In 2022, No. 10 Creighton dropped to No. 1 South Carolina.
NO. 1 seeds: Here is how often the seeds No. 1 make the final four
The lowest seed ever won in elite eight in the 64-team format was in 1998 no. 9 Arkansas. That year Razorbacks defeated No. 2 Duke 77-72. In the last four, they continued their faces undefeated No. 1 Tennessee. Lady Vols defeated Arkansas 86-58. Tennessee was also lonely seed No. 1 in Eight Eight. That was the only time when only one seed no. 1 got into the round.
But what if the seeds that win the championship? More often than not, it has been seeds No. 1 or 2. Since 1994 there have been only three non-no. 1 or 2 seeds for victory: No. 3 North Carolina (1994), No. 3 Tennessee (1997) and No. 3 LSU (2023).
