Harry Kane on winning: ‘Whether I finish with one trophy or 20, I don’t think it’ll change my mindset’
Harry Kane’s much -discussed waiting for a first big trophy would finally end up in a matter of weeks, although his move to Bayern Munich paid off in more than one way almost two years ago, according to the attacker.
Bayern’s Six Point -lead on top of the Bundesliga to go with seven games, makes them the heavy favorites to win the title and deliver a piece of silverware that the Asterisk would remove that many have linked to his reputation as the biggest goal scorer of his generation. However, at the age of 31, the search for silverware does not define its approach to the game.
“I know that there is a lot of talk about the trophies and whether I have finished one trophy or 20 trophies, I don’t think it will change my way of thinking,” said Kane in an exclusive interview with the morning foot of CBS Sports Golazo Network. “Every day when I wake up, it is the best person to be the best teammate, the best player I can be and I feel that I am now at the height of my Prime, so I want to play with the highest player, while I feel as long as possible.”
Kane has long been the biggest goal scorer of his generation and so his ability to translate his strong shape into the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur to the Bundesliga as little surprise. He has 33 goals in 38 games in all matches for Bayern this season, which may feel like the same old in some ways, but Kane believes that his transfer of 2023 has enabled him to improve as a player, especially because it relates to competition for titles. The trophy pursuit this season also includes the UEFA Champions League, where they are confronted with Inter in this month’s quarterfinals, because they focus on a place in the final of 31 May in their home stadium.
“Just compete at the highest level, in the biggest games on a consistent base is probably what you separate from others,” said Kane. “I had spells in Tottenham where I had this, where we [were] Challenging at the highest level, but then there were years where, so I think I would do the year after year and put yourself against the best teams, the best defenders – and yet being able to show a consistent game, I think that is the most pleasant. “
Kane also said that Vincent Kompany, who is in the middle of his first season as Bayern’s manager, played a role to help him improve his game.
“I think I am really impressed by him as a tactical coach, in the first place,” said Kane. “I think the way we play this season with the high press, with the man-to-man almost and then also with the ball, with a lot of ball possession, a lot of intensity, a lot of back pressure is a great way to play, a real attacking style.
“I think he is always known as a great leader when he played and I think he brought it to his coaching role. It doesn’t matter who you are in this team, whether you played 500 games or play your first game, he will treat you the same. He will tell you what you are doing well and I think the players respect that. [You’re] Trying to improve throughout your career and I think I was improved in the time we have already worked together and he has added small pieces to my game and that is all you can ask, so I really enjoy working with him. “
