Philadelphia Flyers have fired coach John Tortorella, as the team is in the second place at the Eastern Conference. The team also announced that the associate coach Brad Shaw will take his reins as the temporary main coach of Philadelphia.

“Today I made the decision very difficult to move on by John as the main coach,” said Flyers Director Daniel Briere in a statement. “John played a vital role in our reconstruction. He set up a game standard and re -established what it means to be a Philadelphia flyer … As we move to the next chapter of this reconstruction, I felt that this was the best for our team to move forward.”

Tortorella spent the last three seasons as coach of the Flyers and led the team to a record 97-107-33 during this period. The flyers are currently in the reconstruction phase and are in a streak of six games, including losing 11 of their last 12 contests.
