Every year, the best players in Men Hockey and Female Hockey are recognized by the two most prestigious prizes in hockey at university, Hobey Baker Memorial Award and Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. Let’s discuss the seasons of this year’s winners:

Casey O’Brien, University of Wisconsin

The excellent college career of Casey O’Brien ended at the end and won the third national championship in Wisconsin and the Patty Kazmaier Award from 2025 as the most important player in the women’s hockey.

O’Brien becomes the sixth winner of Patty Kaz from the University of Wisconsin. Her Wisconsin teammates Caroline Harvey and Laila Edwards were two other finalists this year, which was only for the second time in history that all three finalists were from the same team.

O’Brien led the nation in points with 88, which builds it tied up on the seventh most of the most season in the history of NCAA and its 62 assists was inserted by its third most in the history of NCAA.

Isaac Howard, Michigan State University

2025 winner Hobey Baker Memorial Award Isaac Howard, Michigan State

Isaac Howard becomes the first Michigan State player to win the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for 24 years and the third Spartan, who won it All-Time, joined Great Kip Miller (1999) and Ryan Miller (2001). Howard defeated two of his teammates from the American hockey 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship Gold-Medal Team: Standout Denver defender Zeev Bium and leading national goal, Boston College Ryan Leonard.

This season, Howard was a force for Spartans and became the best career goals (26) and points (52) in 37 games. He led the nation in points to the game (1,41) and the third in the goals and fifth in points. His biggest moment this season came when he scored two goals, including the goal of the winning game in double overtime against Ohio No. 9 in Big Ten Championship.

Howard dealt with every goal of MSU at the Big Ten tournament, ended up with three goals and two assists on the way to winning the second consecutive Big Ten Spartans championship. The Spartans came shortly in 2025 NCAA di Men’s Ice Hockey Championship and lost in the dying seconds with Cornell in the regional semifinals.
