Stanley Cup Playoffs 2025: Maple Leafs, Jets stand as Canada’s best hope to end long championship drought

Canada brought to the world the beautiful sport of hockey, so you might think that Canadian teams would dominate the Nhl Landscape at most seasons. However, this has been far from the case for the last three decades.

The Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian team lift the Stanley Cup When they did during the 1992-93 season. It has been a drought agonizing for the country that has seven teams in the league to go without winning the most coveted prize for sports. Whenever a team has a superstar duo like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, making a Stanley Cup race is never out of mind. However, this time is a slightly tougher road for the oilers. Edmonton will be without a defender Mattas Ekholm for at least the opening round, as it deals with an unveiled injury. Draisaitl also struck at the end of the season, so the error of injury definitely has not been kind to the oilers until the end. Losing a superior defender like Ekholm by a series against a team like the Kings, who have been thriving offensively with 4.6 goals per contest during their last five games, is a huge problem. The Kings and the Oilers have faced the first round in each of the last four seasons, but I think the injuries of the Oilers may be up to date.

4. Ottawa Senators

After losing the Playoffs of the Stanley Cup in seven consecutive seasons, the senators saw that the fruits of their long reconstruction came to fruition this season. Young stars like Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson have appeared as previous franchise, while Claude Giroux has provided a necessary leadership to reach this point. It also did not hurt that Ottawa finally had a franchise goalkeeper in Linus Ulark. While the future is extremely bright for senators, they may not yet be the Stanley Cup contenders. They will take the Maple Leafs in the post -season opening round, which is definitely not an ideal scenario. Although Maple Leafs have sometimes been underlined during the Playoffs of the Stanley Cup in recent years, this is an absolutely loaded Toronto team that has the advantage of this playoff experience. This will certainly be an entertaining series and the senators can definitely win a game or two. However, it is not yet the time of the senators.

5. Montreal Canadiens

It is ironic that the Canadians were the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, but they probably have the least chance to get the feat this season. The Canadians barely snatched this year and played an offensive juggler from a team in the capitals. Montreal was one of the worst five teams of the NHL during the regular season, while ranked in the lower half in terms of its power game unit. Although the capitals may be a little lucky to end where they did this season, the Canadians do not have enough fire power to keep up with a team that scored the second goals throughout the NHL.
