UConn star Paige Bueckers goes No. 1 to Dallas Wings in 2025 WNBA Draft

Paige Bueckers was selected by the Dallas Wings With the first overall selection in the 2025 WNBA design on Monday.

During her senior season at Uconn, BUeckers was interested in consensus No. 1 when she contributed to leading the huskies to a 12th national championship. It was her first with the school after a five -year trip on which she had overcome several knee injuries that she held out of her second season and for her entire junior year.

But Bueckers fought back.

She achieved an average of 19.9 points and 4.6 templates last season. In the sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, she scored a career high of 40 points when her huskies dominated the women’s field with ease.

It will join a happy wing organization that skipped the Los Angeles Sparks, which had the highest chance of hit number 1 in front of the lottery.

Bueckers will join a background that offers four times all-star Arike Ogunbawale and creates a duo that is difficult to defend when the wings are trying to return to the off-season. Bueckers has the chance to have an immediate influence in Dallas, similar to 2024 First Pick Caitlin Clark, who led the Indiana fever into the playoffs in her first season.

Dallas has had a 9-31 season that has been playing since 2011 when the franchise played in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Wings last had number 1 in 2021 and selected Charli Collier, who only played two seasons with them.

The WNBA season of 2025 is scheduled to begin on May 16. The wings organize the Minnesota Luchs to open the season.
