USWNT score within first minute in Brazil friendly, still lose after conceding goal in 95th-minute
The national team of the United States scored on Tuesday evening in the opening minute of their friendly with Brazil via Catarina Macario, but it was not enough because the Americans admitted twice, including in the 95th minute, with 2-1.
There were various changes to the starting line -up by the American national team manager Emma Hayes with seven new additions to the line -up of Saturday’s 2-0 victory. Viadder Trinity Rodman did not dress for precautionary reasons while building her minutes of a back injury, and goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce was released the night after her striking performance in the first game. Hayes chose to get more game evaluations than to make important formation adjustments, because the team stood in line in the well-known 4-2-3-1 formation that they used in Match One.
Despite the rotations with several players to start, the USWNT started to start quickly when Macario scored 35 seconds of the game in the opening.
Claire Hutton, a 19-year-old midfielder, won the ball deep in the defensive half and Alyssa Thompson jumped ahead. The winger made a sprint of almost 70 meters in the box for a collision between Brazilian goalkeeper Natascha Honegger and her defender. Macario’s extensive effort in the six-year box was enough to get the opening goal.
With a lot of play left, the two parties played an open and transition first half, each with possibilities to expose space behind opposing defenses. Brazil immediately made a stunning goal from Kerolin van Manchester City in the 25th minute, who connected on the net with a long -distance shot that sailed Maty McMlynn on the left -top left. The two sides remained to the standstill of the competition during the competition.
The pace of the match shifted from an open, transition match to somewhat turbulent physical play by long pieces. Brazil delivered the last dagger in the stopping time when replacement Amanda Gutierres scored the game winner.
The US will return to action in May and June with friendly matches against China.
