UEFA Champions League campaign may not return to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium of Madrid until next week, but the upcoming quarterfinals of Arsenal against Real Madrid inspires memories of the last time that the Gunners played a knock -out game of their opponent -and one of their oppere’s home.

Arsenal achieved a 1-0 win in Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League season 2005-06, which was the only goal in the two-legged draw. Henry was a presence during the game and eventually earned his reward in the 47th minute, when he received the ball in the middle circle and ran along Ronaldo, Alvaro Mejia, Guti and Sergio Ramos while flooding the length of Real Madrdi’s half. He completed things with a finish from the box and sent the ball past Iker Casillas and in the right corner.

The victory of the Gunners marked the first time that an English team won at the Bernabeu and was only the start of a memorable Champions League campaign for them. They beat Juventus and Villarreal to book their first and so far only in the Champions League final against Barcelona in the Stade de France. It was also an impressive season for Henry, who had five Champions League goals that season.

Barcelona then won the final that spring in a 2-1 win and collected the second of their five Champions League titles. Arsenal took the lead in the 37th minute thanks to a goal from Sol Campbell, but Samuel Eto’o and Juliano Belletti scored two goals in four minutes to erase the benefit of the Gunners late in the second half. Arsenal -goalkeeper Jens Lehmann’s early red card turned out to be decisive.

This time Arsenal will first organize Real Madrid before returning to the Bernabeu next week, because both parties focus on a place in the semi -final.
